Picking Leaves
Exercise 6 – Picking Leaves - not noses
Find a bush covered with leaves from ground level to 20 feet high.
Tie a good piece of fluro orange yarn onto your 9 foot leader.
At varying distances, focus on just one leaf. Maintain a tight loop. The stop is as critical as the straight line path of the rod tip.
The object is to get the yarn to turn over at full leader extension and hit the same leaf on each forward cast.
Try different heights and also vary your casting planes.
Break your rod into 3/4 and try it too. Then into 1/2.
When you think you are clever turn around and pick leaves on the back cast too.
With practice you will get very good at this exercise and it will stand you in good stead when you need tight loop accurate casts.
